Q:What are the specifications of the built-in mics?
A:
They are omnidirectional high-sensitivity microphones.
Q:Can recording be carried out using the built-in mics and the MIC/AUX IN jack at the same time?
A:
Simultaneous use is not possible. The MIC/AUX IN jack takes precedence.
Q:What kind of external mics can be used?
A:
Plug-in-power mics that allow a miniature stereo phone connection are supported. One such product from Roland is the CS-10EM.
Q:What types of SD cards can be used?
A:
Cards of the microSDHC standard (up to 32 GB) are supported.
* Depending on the manufacturer and type of the memory card, correct recording and playback on this unit might not be possible.
Important Note
Panasonic microSD cards are unsupported.
For the most recent information on microSD cards which have been confirmed to work, refer to
microSD Card Compatibility List for R-07.
Q:What recording times are possible on microSD cards?
A:
This differs according to the settings for Sample Rate (sampling rate) and Rec Mode (recording mode).
Refer to the Reference Guide (p. 15), "Approximate Recording Times."
Q:What is the maximum size of a single file that can be recorded?
A:
The maximum size of a single file is 2 GB.
The upper limit for file size can be set to 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, or 2 GB by using the "Split Type" setting.
Also, if the upper limit that has been set is exceeded during recording, a new file is created and recording continues.
Audio is recorded gaplessly, with no interruption when the files are switched. This means that you can use the unit's built-in editing features and waveform editing programs to join files together without any interruptions.
* Gapless editing of files recorded as MP3 requires a separate waveform editor capable of direct editing in MP3 format without conversion.
* Depending on the state of the SD card used, audio interruption might occur in some cases.
Q:Can longer operating times be achieved by using an externally connected battery power supply?
A:
The R-07 does not support use of an external battery power supply.
To achieve long continuous usage times, use a commercially available USB AC adapter and/or commercially available USB cable.
Q:What kind of stand can the R-07 be mounted on using the unit's tripod mounting socket?
A:
The socket lets you mount the unit on a commercially available camera tripod.
The socket is threaded for a 1/4" screw.
When you want to mount the unit on a mic stand, use the separately available OP-MSA1.
Q:Is there a function for automatically setting an appropriate input level for recording?
A:
Yes. Using the Rehearsal function lets you set an optimal recording level in advance.
Also, when recording meeting minutes, using AGC (Auto Gain Control) lets you have the level adjusted automatically during recording.
Q:What are "scenes"? How can they be used?
A:
The R-07 provides sets of settings that are suitable for various recording situations; these sets of settings are called "scenes." You can load optimal settings by recalling a scene.
Refer to the Owner's Manual (p.12), "Recalling Settings for Specific Purposes."
Q:When does the Hybrid Limiter function operate?
A:
The Hybrid Limiter function on the R-07 operates under the following conditions.
"Limiter": ON
"Input Level": 60 or higher
* The Hybrid Limiter function does not operate when Rec Mode is set to "2xWAV (Dual Level Recording)."
* When the Limiter is ON and the Input Level is 59 or lower, or whenever the Dual Level Recording is being engaged, the normal (non-Hybrid) limiter will be activated.
* For more details about the Limiter function and its settings, refer to the Reference Guide (p. 16), "Using Limiter or AGC."
Q:What is dual level recording?
A:
This is a function that lets you simultaneously create two files at different recording levels.
A backup file at a low recording level is also recorded as a safeguard just in case clipping occurs.
Specifically, recording with 2xWAV-16 bit or 2xWAV-24 bit selected for Rec Mode lets you simultaneous record at the specified input level and at an input level approximately 20 dB lower than that input level.
This setting is recommended when the possibility exists that the recorded audio might be distorted if the volume level becomes too high during actual recording, even when the input level has been set. When you record, two files are created.
Example:When the file name is R07_0010.WAV
R07_0010.WAV |
:Recorded at the specified input level |
R07_0010L.WAV |
:Recorded at an input level approximately 20 dB lower than the specified level |
Q:The input level cannot be set to any value from "1" to "41."
A:
When Rec Mode is set to 2xWAV-16 bit or 2xWAV-24 bit, the settable range for the input level is 0 or a value from 42 to 100.
Also, when you're recording using 2xWAV, a file is automatically created at an input level whose value is lower than the specified input level.
Q:What is the effective range for remote-control operation from a smartphone or smartwatch?
A:
Operation is possible within a range having a line-of-sight distance of approximately 10 meters.
Note, however, that depending on the surrounding environment, this might be limited to a smaller range than the distance given above.
Q:Making a Bluetooth connection is difficult.
A:
Try clearing the pairing data on the mobile device.
* For information on how to operate the mobile device you're using, refer to the device's documentation.
* When using R-07 Remote on an Android device with Android 6.0 or later, please turn Android Location mode on and then scan for R-07.
Q:Can Bluetooth headphones be used during recording?
A:
They can be used when pairing has been completed before the record-standby state. Please understand, however, that audio latency occurs during use. Reducing latency is possible by using equipment that supports Qualcomm(R) aptX(TM) low latency.
Q:No sound is heard from the built-in speaker during playback.
A:
Check the following matters.
- Press the [VOL +] button to raise the volume level until sound is heard.
- No sound is played from the built-in speaker when a set of headphones or an external speaker is connected to the unit's PHONES jack. Detach the cable connected to the PHONES jack.
- If the built-in speaker is set to OFF, set it to ON.
* Go to [MENU] --- [4 Player] --- [Speaker] --- and set the value to ON.
- Sound is also not played from the built-in speaker when a Bluetooth speaker or set of headphones is connected.
Disconnect the Bluetooth audio device.
* Do this by selecting [MENU] --- [5 Bluetooth] --- [4 Disconnect Audio].
Q:Why is the volume level of sound from the built-in speaker so low?
A:
The unit's built-in speaker is for preview use. When you want to output sound at a higher volume level, connect an external speaker that has a built-in amp to the PHONES jack, or output the audio to a Bluetooth speaker.
* The PHONES jack accepts stereo mini plugs.
* The volume level of the built-in speaker also drops as remaining battery power decreases.
Q:Headphones are connected to the PHONES jack, but sound is played from the built-in speaker and no audio is heard via the headphones.
A:
The PHONES jack on the R-07 is not compatible with headphones (or earphones) that have 4-pole or 5-pole miniature phone plugs.
If the headphones (or earphone) you're using if a 4-pole or 5-pole type, sound might fail to be heard via the headphones and continue to be output from the built-in speaker.
Check the specifications of the headphones you're using and use 3-pole mini-stereo type headphones.
* If you're using 4-pole headphones (or a 4-pole earphone), you can also use a compatible 3-pole jack adapter plug or 3-pole miniature phone extension cable together with the headphones (or earphone) you're using.
Q:Are the date and time of recording automatically inserted into recorded files?
A:
Setting the internal clock enables the setting to be used as data in recorded files (time stamp).
Refer to the Owner's Manual (p. 10), "Setting the Date and Time."
Q:What should I do when I want to use the date as the file name?
A:
Going to the Recorder settings and setting File Name to "Date" makes the date and time of recording be used as the file name.
Refer to the Reference Guide (p. 39), "File Name."
Q:The buttons cannot be operated. Why not?
A:
Is HOLD set to ON?
Leaving the power switch set at HOLD while the power is turned on activates HOLD.
When HOLD is turned on, all button operations are disabled. Control using R-07 Remote is possible even when HOLD is turned on.
Q:Can the order of songs on the unit be rearranged?
